The Gold State Coach

We visited London at the end of March - and went to see the Royal Mews, where the Queen's coaches are kept.  The last one to be seen was the Gold State Coach, a 4 ton, 8 horse carriage, made in 1762 for the coronation of George IV.
It was used for Queen Elizabeth's coronation in 1952, and again in 1977 for her silver jubilee.  In June it will undoubtedly be used again for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

Pit Stop

We took our truck across the country back in July 2005 (we live in Iceland - it's a half a day's journey :) ) and although it's not a great distance, it's still very rugged and we had some unbridged rivers to cross.
Shortly after we started, our daughter had to use the bathroom so we stopped at the next one.  However, it was an outhouse with a hole in the ground - and she suddenly did NOT have to go, because she was grossed out by the sight and smell LOL  It was a waisted stop, if not for the fact that it was next to an amazingly beautiful waterfall, which we got to see :)

The Whale

A big old whale swam ashore around here a few weeks ago.  We saw it on one of our hikes - and it had been dead for awhile, but my girls insisted on taking a look.  When we got to it - they pretty much insisted on going back, because it stank!  But first, mom had to take photos :)

My younger daughter is starting school in the fall - and around the middle of May, her class had a 2 day orientation, where they sat in with the current first graderst.
These photos are from the morning of the first day.  She was SO excited, was totally ready with everything the night before, and spent the entire morning with her schoolbag on her back :)
